
A model of the old Curzon cinema and an Ulsterbus on the Ormeau Road.
It opened in 1936 and closed in 1999 due to competition from the more expensive and larger multiplexes.
In 2003 it was demolished and apartments were built on the site. These have only been completed in the last year. Many are still empty, as are the shops on the ground floor.
Here’s a before photograph from 2003, it may have been closed at this time.
And this is how the apartments look now (or when the Google car was about, it doesn’t look much different now really.
I remember the curzon great image
Iam 15 now, I grew up on the ormeau road and I remember seeing bugs life in the curzon about age 3. I cried because I was scared of the dark and a staff member took us up into the projectionists room to let us watch from up there in the light.
