I got back yesterday after a long weekend in Ballyboughal – popping into Dublin city centre most days for meeting with people and taking photos, as well, of course, as checking out the St Patrick’s Day activities that were going on in the city.
Ballyboughal is about 15miles from Dublin City Centre.
“The name Ballyboughal, or to give it its proper form, Baile Bachaille which means “Town of the Staff” is derived from the “Basal Iosa” of “Staff of Jesus”, which was carried out by St. Patrick during his missionary labours in Ireland. The relic was preserved in the old church of Ballyboughal for a number of years.”
I guess it’s fairly apt that I was staying here on this particular weekend then, with it’s relevance to St Patrick. It’s a beautiful little village, where I met plenty of nice people doing villagy things.
